"Interfest" was founded on May 13, 1975 as General Management Office of International Film Festivals "Sovinterfest" by order of the Cabinet Council of the USSR.

From the start "Interfest" has been well-known among film professionals as an organizer of many film events both is Russia and overseas. The company is primarily associated with Moscow International Film Festival – Interfest had been in charge of organizing this event since 1975 (IX MIFF) till 2006 (XXVIII MIFF). In 1995 the Foreign Press Association awarded "Interfest" a diploma for organizing the best film event of the year.

"Interfest" is a unique company that specializes in organizing film forums. In 2000-2004 "Interfest" had been an organizer of the Annual Festival of Student Films and Debuts "Saint Anna". International Weeks of Russian Film have also become traditional: since 2001 the company has held annual festivals in New York, where lately Russian films ran in the Directors Guild of America Theater in Manhattan. In France the Week of Russian Film "Paris-Art-Moscow" has been hosted in the "Espace Pierre Cardin", the renowned Pierre Cardin’s cultural center. Since 2005 Berlin has become another cultural capital of the world that hosts annual Weeks of Russian Film organized by "Interfest".

In 2006 "Interfest" became a co-organizer of the G8 Finance Ministers meeting in Moscow.

The Russian Day at the 59th Cannes Film Festival was another event carried out by the company as part of the policy of popularizing Russian cinema abroad.

In September 2006 "Interfest" successfully developed a new project – Yalta International Festival of Commercial Film "KINO-YALTA 2006".

On March 6, 2007 a new romantic comedy by A. Strizhenov "Lovey-dovey" (Lyubov’-morkov’) was released. "Interfest" together with the "Real Dakota" film company took part in the production and promotion of the film. The film’s box office in Russia and the Ukraine mounted up to more than 12 million dollars. Currently "Interfest " negotiates international distribution of the film with major European and American distributors.

The first Moscow International Film Festival "TOMORROW" took place in October 26-29, 2007. This festival of "new wave" cinema was organized by "Interfest". It was focused on art house films distinguished by artistic originality and at the same time aimed at success with the public.

In 2007 the company launched the production of two feature films: "INDIGO" (directed by R. Prygunov) and "YULENKA" (directed by A. Strizhenov). The releases are expected in 2008.
